Shmoozing

We've been getting such wonderful letters and emails from folks. Here's an excerpt from a lovely note from her friend Marie: "Your forever memories of Myrna are of the most loving wife and mother; mine are of a treasured colleague and friend. I remember how Myrna was shifted back and forth between Freeport High School and Dodd, and how after some initial trepidation she made the transition seem so effortless and adapted so well. She seemed to be equally at home with the students and staff of both schools, but selfishly I believe she liked being a reading teacher with us at Dodd best. I always admired how Myrna disciplined her students with such smooth calmness. We always considered ourselves a special group and so blest to be thrown in together. I have a picture in my mind of Nora, Connie, Mireille, Jackie, Myrna and myself gathering after school in one of our classrooms. In the absence of some alcoholic fortification, we drew our strength by 'schmoozing' over the day and trading anecdotes about our favorite students. We were just great together. "How special our relationship was over the years. As we retired, our friendship grew even stronger. Lunches, followed by Scrabble games (which Myrna inevitably won because she always managed to land a seven-letter word on a triple!) became a favorite way of getting together. And, of course, the wonderful dinners we shared as couples followed by a raucous, cut-throat game of 'Oh Shit!' "These are precious memories … which will always keep Myrna alive in our hearts."
